Human Trade Assessment

The Pillars of Harmony outline TOK Corporation's categorisation of social utility and are the foundation of both the Human Trade Assessment and the TOK Report. Each Pillar is outlined below alongside the corresponding question on out Workers' Report Card.

Fair pay (decent wages)?

Meritocracy is a political philosophy which holds that certain things, such as economic goods or power, should be vested in individuals on the basis of talent, effort and achievement, rather than factors such as sexuality, race, gender or wealth.

Professional growth (and qualifications)?

Social mobility is the movement of individuals, families, households, or other categories of people within or between social strata in a society. It is a change in social status relative to one's current social location within a given society.

SAFETY (SAFETY)

Safety at work (including hygiene)?

Safety is the state of being "safe", the condition of being protected from harm or other non-desirable outcomes. Safety can also refer to the control of recognised hazards in order to achieve an acceptable level of risk.

SECURITY (STABILITY)

Guaranteed work (secure income)?

Job security is the probability that an individual will keep their job; a job with a high level of job security is such that a person with the job would have a small chance of becoming unemployed.

ECOLOGY (ENVIRONMENT)

Environmental protection (conservation)?

A biophysical environment is a biotic and abiotic surrounding of an organism or population, and consequently includes the factors that have an influence in their survival, development, and evolution. A biophysical environment can vary in scale from microscopic to global in extent.

EQUALITY (EQUALITY)

Social equality (human rights)?

Social equality requires the absence of legally enforced social class or caste boundaries and the absence of discrimination motivated by an inalienable part of a person's identity. It also includes equal opportunities and obligations, and so involves the whole of society.

WELLBEING

Health and wellbeing?

Wellness refers to diverse and interconnected dimensions of physical, mental, and social well-being that extend beyond the traditional definition of health. It includes choices and activities aimed at achieving physical vitality, mental alertness, social satisfaction, a sense of personal fulfilment.

INTEGRITY

Honesty and integrity?

Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles, or moral uprightness. It is a personal choice to hold one's self to consistent standards. In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one's actions.

DIGNITY

Mutual respect and dignity?

Dignity is the right of a person to be valued and respected for their own sake, and to be treated ethically. It is of significance in morality, ethics, law and politics as an extension of the Enlightenment-era concepts of inherent, inalienable rights.

AUTONOMY

Freedom and autonomy?

In development or moral, political, and bioethical philosophy, autonomy is the capacity to make an informed, un-coerced decision. Autonomous organisations or institutions are independent or self-governing. Autonomy can also be defined from human resource perspective and it means a level of discretion granted to an employee in his or her work.

FAMILY

Friends and family?

Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between people. Friendship is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. Friendship has been studied in academic fields such as communication, sociology, social psychology, anthropology, and philosophy.
